Indian Union Muslim League to Have Significant Representation in UDF Cabinet
The United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Kerala has allocated five ministerial positions to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), marking a significant presence of the party in the state cabinet. According to Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, State president of IUML, the designated ministers include prominent leaders such as P.K. Kunhalikutty, P.K. Basheer, V.E. Abdul Gafoor, K.M. Shaji, and N. Samsudheen.
Future Induction and Portfolio Allocation
The UDF plans to induct another IUML leader, Parakkal Abdulla from Kozhikode, into the cabinet after the government completes two and a half years in office. However, the decision on which minister will step down to make way for Abdulla has not been disclosed. The party has given its recommendations for portfolio allocation to the Chief Minister-designate, V.D. Satheesan, who will make the final decision.
- IUML leader P.K. Kunhalikutty stated that the party has not made any claims to specific portfolios, as this decision is the sole prerogative of the Chief Minister.
- The Chief Minister-designate will communicate his decision to the Kerala Governor for approval before the official list of ministers and their portfolios is published.
The allocation of portfolios is currently pending, and an official announcement is expected soon. The development marks an important milestone in the formation of the UDF government in Kerala, with the IUML playing a crucial role in the state’s political landscape.
