Code of Ethics

Editorial Independence

Breaking Reality maintains full editorial independence. Our coverage is driven by newsworthiness and public interest, not by commercial or political interests.

No advertiser, sponsor, or external partner has approval rights over our content.

No Paid Coverage

We do not accept payment, gifts, or favors in exchange for editorial coverage. Any content created in partnership with an external organisation is clearly labelled as sponsored content.

Journalists and editors are prohibited from accepting money, gifts, or travel expenses from sources they cover.

Conflicts of Interest

Our team members must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including:

  • Financial interests in companies or industries they cover
  • Personal relationships with sources or subjects
  • Political or advocacy affiliations that could influence coverage

When a conflict exists, the team member is recused from coverage decisions.

Protection of Sources

We protect confidential sources who provide information in the public interest. We do not disclose source identities without explicit permission, unless required by law.

Before granting anonymity, we verify the source’s credibility and ensure there is a legitimate need for anonymity.

Diversity of Perspectives

We strive to include diverse voices and perspectives in our coverage. We seek out sources from different backgrounds, geographies, and viewpoints.

Our goal is fair and balanced reporting, not false equivalence. When there is a clear factual consensus, we report it as such.

Accuracy and Corrections

Accuracy is our primary value. We verify before publishing. When we make errors, we correct them transparently.

For our full corrections policy, see /corrections. For our editorial standards, see our editorial standards page.
