Police Crackdown on Non-Veg Food Sellers
Authorities have stepped up their vigilance along Kanwar pilgrimage routes, detaining four individuals for allegedly selling non-vegetarian food in Bareilly. The action was taken after police raided two shops on Saturday evening, finding them to be operating despite prior warnings.
Incidents of Non-Compliance
The first incident occurred near the old Roadways bus stand in Bahedi, where a shop was found selling chicken biryani. The shopkeepers, identified as Salman and Raees, were detained by police. A JCB was subsequently used to demolish the shop’s tin shed and counter.
In a separate incident, police raided another shop near the bakery area and detained two individuals. The traders had been warned earlier against selling non-vegetarian food during the Kanwar pilgrimage but allegedly continued to operate.
Heightened Surveillance
Authorities have increased surveillance along major Kanwar routes, including the Bareilly-Bahedi route, to prevent the sale of meat, chicken, and fish in restricted areas. Instructions have been issued to traders regarding the sale of non-vegetarian food during the Sawan month, and further violations will invite action as per law, according to Bahedi Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh.
