Tragic Incident Unfolds in Jirgyal Village
A horrific incident of caste-based violence has shaken the village of Jirgyal in Bidar district, resulting in the brutal murder of a 45-year-old Dalit farmer. The deceased, identified as Rajkumar Vitalrao Shinde, was allegedly attacked with an axe by a group of farmers from the Maratha community following a dispute over goats grazing in their field.
Dispute Over Goat Grazing Turns Deadly
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Susheela, the trouble began when Rajkumar’s goats entered the agricultural field of one of the accused, Pradeep Vamanrao Shinde, causing damage to the crop. The accused had reprimanded Rajkumar over the incident, which eventually led to a violent confrontation.
On the day of the incident, Rajkumar had taken his goats to graze in a nearby field when he was confronted by the group of farmers. The accused allegedly hurled caste-related slurs at Rajkumar before attacking him with an axe, resulting in a fatal head injury.
Police Register Case Under SC/ST Act
The Mehakar police have registered a case against the four accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused have been identified as Pradeep Vamanrao Shinde, Rajkumar Muralidhar Biradar, Sharad Vamanrao Lade, and Shubham Sharad Lade.
The incident has highlighted the prevailing caste-based tensions in the region and the need for stricter enforcement of laws to protect marginalized communities. The police are investigating the matter, and further action is expected to be taken against the accused.
