Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav expressed his grief over the sudden demise of his step-brother Prateek Yadav, describing it as a deeply disturbing loss. Prateek, who was known for his fitness enthusiasm and hard work, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the age of 38.
Condolence Message
Akhilesh Yadav shared his condolences on social media, saying, “Shri Prateek Yadav’s demise is extremely saddening. May Lord grant peace to the departed soul. Humble tributes!” He also shared a message in Hindi, “श्री प्रतीक यादव जी का निधन, अत्यंत दुखद!ईश्वर दिवंगत आत्मा को शांति प्रदान करे।विनम्र श्रद्धांजलि!”
Circumstances Surrounding the Death
According to sources, Prateek suddenly fell ill and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead. Akhilesh Yadav rushed to the hospital and later visited the King George’s Medical University (KGMU), where an autopsy was scheduled. He spoke briefly to reporters outside KGMU, saying that Prateek was a health-conscious person who wanted to build something on his own.
Akhilesh Yadav also mentioned that he had met Prateek around two months ago and had advised him to take care of his health and continue expanding his work. He said that people sometimes become deeply distressed due to financial pressures and business losses.
Personal Life
Prateek, the son of late SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhna Gupta, stayed away from active politics despite being from a prominent political family. His wife, Aparna Bisht Yadav, is a member of the BJP and currently serves as the vice-chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission.
Akhilesh Yadav had visited Prateek around 10 days ago at Medanta Hospital, where he had been admitted due to a health issue. The Samajwadi Party chief said that the family would follow all legal procedures and abide by the law.
