Water Woes in Mylapore
For the past three months, certain areas in Mylapore have been plagued by disruptions in drinking water supply, courtesy of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB). The affected areas, which fall under depot 124 of CMWSSB, have been struggling to get their sumps filled, despite numerous complaints to the authorities.
Residents of Arisikaran Street, K.P. South Street, Nallappan Street, TSV Koil Street, Adam Street, and Solaimariamman Street have all reported poor water supply, with some not receiving a single drop of water. Diwakar, a resident of Arisikaran Street, expressed his frustration, stating that despite repeated complaints, the issue persists, with CMWSSB only digging trenches in front of some houses as a token effort.
Affected Residents Speak Out
Ramesh, a resident of K.P. South Street, shared his experience of applying for a new Metro Water connection and meter after renovating his house, only to be left high and dry. Suresh, another resident of the same street, changed the washer and other materials in his pump, thinking it was the problem, only to find that the refurbished pump still didn’t yield any water.
The common thread among the affected residents is the lack of action from CMWSSB, despite their diligence in paying water tax. The residents are demanding better service from the authorities, citing the lack of water supply and low pressure in pipelines as a major concern.
