A significant decision has been made by the Juvenile Justice Board, directing a 16-year-old minor to be tried as an adult for his involvement in a murder case, as reported by the Delhi police on Sunday.
The order, passed by Principal Magistrate Sahil Khurmi, came after the investigating officer, Inspector Manoj Mudgal of Shakarpur police station, presented substantial evidence, including scientific and electronic proof, showcasing the severe nature of the offense.
Investigation and Evidence
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar, the verdict is a result of a meticulous and scientifically sound investigation conducted by the East District Police, highlighting the gravity of the crime and the offender’s history.
The case dates back to December 7, 2025, when a 22-year-old man was stabbed in Shakarpur Market, succumbing to his injuries later. The police found that the minor was already facing trial for another murder case registered in 2024.
Key Factors
- The minor’s ability to influence adults and engage them in criminal activities.
- His lack of remorse for the killing and aspiration to become a ‘gangster’.
- Display of the deceased’s body in public, indicating a severe lack of empathy.
Inspector Manoj Mudgal emphasized that these factors, supported by collected evidence, were crucial in the board’s decision to try the minor as an adult under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The board’s judgment, considering the severity of the offense and relevant factors under the Juvenile Justice Act, marks a significant turn in the case, reflecting the minor’s inclination towards serious crime and the necessity for appropriate legal action.
