Underground Cabling Project Picks Up Pace in Rajahmundry
The city of Rajahmundry is witnessing a significant development in its infrastructure as the Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited (APEPDCL) is working tirelessly to lay a comprehensive underground cabling network in the Godavari Pushkara Ghats. This ambitious project, estimated to cost ₹20.9 crore, aims to provide uninterrupted power supply and enhance safety in the crowded ghats during the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu festival.
Project Progress
According to APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Immadi Prudhvitej, the project is progressing at a brisk pace, with over 1 kilometer of the underground line already completed. The corporation has set a deadline of mid-August to complete the entire project, with a focus on ensuring public safety during the festival.
The project involves laying multiple high-voltage underground cables, including 33 KV (400 Sqmm) cables, 11 KV (300 Sqmm) cables, and 11 KV (185 Sqmm) cables, across strategic routes in the city. Additionally, modern Ring Main Units (RMUs) are being integrated into the grid to facilitate seamless power distribution and quick load switching.
Safety First
The decision to shift the entire power network underground comes in the wake of past public safety challenges during large-scale religious congregations. The authorities are taking no chances with public safety this time, aiming to eliminate potential electrical short-circuits, loose wiring hazards, and transformer mishaps.
The Godavari Pushkaralu festival, scheduled to begin on June 26, 2027, is expected to draw over 8 crore devotees from across the country. With the underground cabling project, the authorities are confident of providing a safe and uninterrupted power supply to the pilgrims.
