CPI(M) Leader P.K Sreemathy to Take Legal Action Against ‘Fake Pension’ Campaign
Former Kerala Health Minister and senior CPI(M) leader P.K Sreemathy has decided to take strong legal action against those responsible for spreading false information about her alleged involvement in a fraudulent pension case.
Ms. Sreemathy has stated that she has already filed complaints with the Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Director General of Police, among other authorities, and has instructed her lawyer to prepare petitions for criminal and civil defamation proceedings.
The Controversy
The controversy began when some online news platforms claimed that Ms. Sreemathy was receiving a family pension in the name of an MLA identified as ‘Krishnan’, citing purported RTI documents. Ms. Sreemathy has rejected these allegations as entirely false, stating that no such MLA has ever served in the Kerala Assembly.
Ms. Sreemathy expressed her shock and distress at the circulation of a chart claiming that she was receiving an alleged pension illegally by posing as another person’s wife. She stated that she has never borrowed money from anyone and that the allegations are ‘deeply hurtful’ to her and her family.
Ms. Sreemathy has decided to proceed strongly against the defamatory campaign and will be taking legal action against media organizations and online platforms that published or circulated the allegations without verification.
- The proposed legal action will cover criminal and civil defamation proceedings.
- Ms. Sreemathy has expressed disappointment that no journalist contacted her to verify the claims before publishing them.
- She has stated that she will not speculate on the motive behind the campaign, but will focus on protecting her reputation built over five decades of public life.
Ms. Sreemathy’s lawyer is currently preparing the necessary documents, including compiling digital records, before filing the petition. Legal notices will be issued first, and the entire process is expected to take about a week.
