Madhya Pradesh Firecracker Factory Explosion Claims Five Lives
A devastating explosion at a firecracker factory in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, has resulted in the loss of five lives, with two more workers succumbing to their injuries, according to officials. Twenty-three others are currently undergoing treatment for their injuries.
The licensed owner of the factory, Anil Malviya, has been arrested under the National Security Act (NSA), and his firecracker license has been suspended. Three injured workers have been admitted to the Government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital in Indore, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited to enquire about their well-being.
Investigation and Action
Chief Minister Yadav assured that the state government would take strict action against those found guilty and announced that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway. Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Dewda stated that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered, in addition to the factory owner’s arrest.
A team of officials from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), the State Pollution Control Board, and the Forensic Science Laboratory are investigating the explosion. The district magistrate revealed that the factory had only begun manufacturing small firecrackers 15 days prior to the incident.
Political Reactions
State Congress president Jitu Patwari criticized the state government over the incident, alleging that the factory owner enjoys the patronage of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. He also claimed that firecrackers were being illegally stored in agricultural produce warehouses and that minor boys were working at the factory, demanding the immediate suspension of the district magistrate.
