New Initiatives to Enhance Electricity Supply in Jammu and Kashmir
In a significant move to upgrade the power infrastructure in Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet has given its approval for projects worth ₹93 crore. Chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the cabinet meeting on Friday (May 16, 2026) focused on improving the transmission capacity and reducing power outages in the city.
Key Projects Approved
The initiatives include the augmentation of the Zainakote Grid Sub Station from 450 MVA to 780 MVA, at a cost of ₹67.66 crore. Additionally, the cabinet approved the upgradation of the 132 KV Pampore-Rawalpora and Rawalpora-Bemina transmission lines, which will be completed at a cost of ₹25.47 crore.
These projects are expected to significantly strengthen the power infrastructure in Srinagar and adjoining areas. By enhancing transmission capacity and reducing power interruptions, the initiatives will ensure a more reliable and efficient electricity supply to consumers.
The approval of these projects is a major step towards meeting the growing electricity demand in the region, particularly during peak load periods. The upgradation of the grid sub station and transmission lines will improve overall grid stability, providing a major boost to the power infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
